Then it dawned on me...If I make my focus for a new year on a New Year’s resolution, I have to think about old things that have taken place in the past. I have to think about those past failures, shames, heartaches, and even un-achieved dreams and let’s be honest, nothing positive comes out of that. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come" (ESV). God says the old has passed away – it is dead, Glory be to God. This means those dreams that I failed to see come to fruition do not matter...the pain and heartaches that have caught me by surprise do not have to have a hold on me...the shame of not losing the weight I wanted to and maybe even gaining more, a thing of the past! Why? The new has come, hallelujah!!!!
I challenge you: Why not focus on this scripture with me as a New Year’s resolution. If you belong to Christ, realize that your self-esteem HAS BEEN esteemed in Jesus. In order to embrace this, you must embrace who you are in Christ and in what has ALREADY been done in the Son!!!
