Whether it is a seed of corn, a seed of an apple, a seed of a watermelon, or even a mustard seed; whatever is planted is what will be produced. Before a seed can be planted though, great care must go into harvesting the ground. The soil must be aerated, raked and fertilized, and then the seed can be placed into the ground. Yet, the process does not end there. Although the seed is in the ground, it will not grow unless it has the proper amount of light as well as water. Seems pretty simple and straight forward, right?
Now that this wonderful seed is in the ground and has even begun to grow, something else will grow with it, attempting to choke the very life out of its growth. Weeds, if you are not watchful. If you plant the seed and do not monitor its progress, what the seed has produced will die because of the same weeds.
This scenario can be likened to you as a child of God. God gives you a word, albeit from the pulpit, TV or your intimate time with Him. A word that is so clear, it makes your day. But did you know that the word was not only intended to make your day? It also was intended to change your life! The soil of your recreated human spirit may have been made ready by allowing growth from the aeration of overcoming things that have held you down, according to Romans 8:28. You may have allowed the chastisement of God to rake your heart of the old mess, allowing the newness of Him to come forth, according to Hebrews 12:6. You may even have allowed the word of God to fertilize that seed, giving it nourishment to grow stronger, according to Psalms 119:11. Yet, what happened? Weeds! You allowed a weed of unforgiveness to take a hold of the precious seed that God gave you. Or you may have allowed the weed of bitterness to choke the life out of it. What about resentment or even jealousy? Those two are also like weeds.
What should you do? Should you allow the enemy to steal the seed of His word from you, or should you realize where you messed up, repent, accept the forgiveness of God and move forward? Choose to do the latter. Choose to press forward to the mark of the high calling of God which is in Christ Jesus, according to Philippians 3:14.
